Graham Freudenberg

Graham Freudenberg entered journalism as a cadet reporter on the Brisbane Telegraph in 1952, later working on the Sydney Mirror, MilduraSunraysia Daily, Melbourne Sun News-Pictorial and GTV9 News, Melbourne.  In 1961, as press secretary to federal opposition leader Arthur Calwell, Freudenberg began developing the speechwriting role for which he is best known, crafting oratory for Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke and New South Wales premiers Neville Wran, Barrie Unsworth and Bob Carr. He is the author of A Certain Grandeur, a biography of Gough Whitlam and winner of The Age Literary Award (1977), A Figure of Speech – A Political Memoir (2005) and Churchill and Australia, the winner of the 2009 Walkley Non-Fiction Book Award.Churchill and Australia, Saturday, 13 March, 11am.
