Tokyo, New York and Shanghai: food capitals of the world today. Ting Guo will discuss her upcoming book, Culinary Memories of Displacement, about travellers, refugees and immigrants who re-settled in these bustling cities and how their cuisines and food cultures became an essential part of each city’s cultural memory.

Ting Guo

Ting Guo received her PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Edinburgh and has worked for St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford and the Center on Religion and Chinese Society, Purdue University. She writes bilingually and is the feature editor for and contributor for Los Angeles Review of Books. She is currently working on a project on how ‘love’ emerged as an affective concept and political discourse in modern China. She can be reached at @tingguowrites and
