Espen Harbitz

“I believe there is nothing better in life than a long lunch that flows into sunset.” – Espen Harbitz

The warm hospitality that you feel at Capital M is part of the signature M experience – but it’s also very much part of Espen Harbitz `working style’.

Hospitality comes naturally to the Capital M general manager, who grew up in a family of hoteliers in Norway.  Espen was schooled at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, and moved to Hong Kong in 1989.  He first worked with M Restaurant founder Michelle Garnaut in 1997, during a stint cooking at Shanghai’s Peace Hotel, and joined M at the Fringe as General Manager in 1999.

A good restaurant is like a good movie
“A good restaurant is like a good movie,” says Espen, “all elements must come together and deliver a few hours of escape.  A restaurant must meet high expectations, and – also have a few surprise elements – just like a good movie – to stand out as memorable.  But it must also a place where people can feel comfortable and relax.  At Capital M, it’s all about our guests enjoying good food and wine, good company and conversation, a special view in a beautiful environment – and looking forward to returning.”
